Should Germany Abandon Nuclear Phase-Out Plans?

Germany can and should continue its plans to phase out nuclear energy and the many waste and security hazards that come with it. It should continue to move forward as a world leader in solar power and in both domestic and emerging technologies. -- Adam Dempsey, Australia

Merkel called on critics of nuclear energy for feasible alternatives

I gather there is a lot of concern in Germany about commissioning one new coal fired power station. So what? I am informed that China is planning more than 200 new coal fired power stations over the next decade or so. What is the point of the Western countries behaving responsibly when the rest of the world does what it likes? Global warming will be fueled by total emissions and unless there is global cooperation to curb it, mankind's future may be short-lived. One aspect of global warming that is never mentioned is overpopulation and what to do about it. Resources are limited and if we want to live in comfort, the population must be limited. -- Clifford Thackwray

Nuclear energy is the alternative. Germany should be at the forefront of this industry and technology. The rest of the world suffers without German research and development to improve the safety and efficiency of this extremely important resource. -- Anthony Thompson
