Bukharbaeva, Galima

Galima Bukharbaeva is chief editor of the independent Uzbek news website uznews.net, which was created as a joint project of Uzbek journalists in 2005 in Taschkent. Bukharbaeva was born in 1974 in Taschkent and worked in Uzbekistan as an AFP correspondent from 1998-2003 and for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (2000-2005). She had to flee from her country in 2005, because she reported about the massacre of Andijan. She was one of the few eyewitnesses of this slaughter of nearly 1,000 innocent people and she was honored with the International Press Freedom Award in the USA in 2005. Since 2006, sheworks and lives in Berlin.
