Peter Senger is continuing his work at the Deutsche Welle as Director of DRM. Thanks to his years of experience, especially as head of a DRM steering committee, the 64-year-old has been charged with continuing the successful introduction of digital reception technology.

Born in 1941, Peter Senger started his career with Deutsche Welle in 1965 after he finished his study as Broadcasting Engineer in Berlin.

He worked for more than 16 years at different relay stations of DW in Africa, Europe and America. In 1981 he returned to Germany and was for 13 years head of the "Radio Frequency Department".

From 1995 until June 2002 he was the Chief Engineer of DW and Deputy Technical Director. In this position he was in charge of new technologies as well as the planning and negotiation of the satellite network for broadcasting DW’s television and radio programmes world-wide.

For the four years from 1994 until 1998 he represented the interest of international broadcasters in the Steering Board of WorldDAB, a forum for the introduction of digital radio, and was the chairman of the Module for Satellite Services.

Peter Senger was also chairman of the Steering Board of Digital Radio Mondiale/DRM, a world-wide consortium for the development of a global standard for digital transmission in the broadcasting bands below 30 MHz, since the beginning in 1998.

He represented for many years the Deutsche Welle at major international conferences on digital broadcast technology for radio and television on terrestrial transmitters, satellites and in the internet.

In 1998 he was nominated for the Communication Section of the German Space Center "Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V./DLR".

In July 2002 Peter Senger became Director for Distribution at Deutsche Welle and is a member of the board for GERMAN TV, the pay-tv-service from the public broadcasters ARD, ZDF and DW.

In September 2003 Peter Senger has received the first life-time award of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for his engagement for international broadcasting.
