DW launches podcast ‘The Dip’: U.S. business' global impact

"The Dip" illuminates the connections between American business, finance, trade, and the global economy.
Hosted by journalists Kassandra Sundt and Daniel Winter, the podcast is designed to provide insightful analysis on how international events impact the finances and careers of an American audience.
"The Dip" tackles some of today's most pressing global issues, with initial episodes slated to explore topics as wide-ranging as the race for AI supremacy, the geopolitical struggle over semiconductor chips, and the escalating competition between German auto giants and Chinese EV manufacturers.
"We want to demystify the global economy for an audience navigating a complex financial world," said Kassandra Sundt, co-host. "The story of your student debt, the tech you use, or the job market you're entering is often connected to decisions and events happening thousands of miles away. We're here to connect those dots in an engaging and accessible way."
Current affairs and expert knowledge
The first episode features an in-depth conversation about the Trump administration’s moves to limit H1B visas – a non-immigrant visa – with experts professor Ron Hira (Howard University) and Shahriar Tajbakhsh, co-founder of the San Francisco-based startup Metaview. Lastly, we touch base with Adil Bhat (DW Delhi studio) about the impacts on Indian students and young professionals whose “American Dream” now feels out of reach.
"With 'The Dip,' we have a fantastic opportunity to showcase the depth of DW's global journalism," added co-host Daniel Winter. "We're taking big, impactful stories from our reporting teams and break them down to show our audience how international events directly affect their careers and wallets."
Nadja Scholz, Managing Director of Programming emphasized: "As the U.S. undergoes profound political and economic shifts, ‘The Dip’ empowers the young generation to think critically and make informed decisions. With this format, DW continues its mission to deliver global, digital journalism that offers context in an incresingly complex world."
The podcast releases two episodes each week. One episode features an in-depth expert interview centered on a key piece of DW reporting, while a second, dynamic Q&A episode features audience interaction and addresses listeners’ questions.
"The Dip" is available on the DW website and the official DW News YouTube channel. Audio-only versions can be streamed on all major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
