Gutiérrez Romero, Lamasiel

Journalist and rights activist

Lamasiel Gutiérrez Romero was born in Cuba in 1969. A lifelong rights activist, she was forced to go to an “education center”. In 1998 she had a baby with the former political prisoner of the “Black Spring 2003”, Rolando Jiménez Posada. During her imprisonment she became an active member of “Ladies in White”. As an independent journalist she was imprisoned in “Manto Negro”. Among others she worked for The New Cuban Press and for Radio y TV Marti. In 2010 she was forced to join Jiménez Posadas in exile. She currently works as a journalist for Miscelaneas de Cuba, an independent online magazine, and Cubanet in order to help fighting the human rights abuses in Cuba.
