Katrin Heeren holds a degree (M.Sc. / Diplom) in Earth Sciences from the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg and a post-graduate Environmental Manager Certificate from FernUniversität Hagen. Her 14 years work experience comprises 7 years spent in the field of climate change, sustainable development and environmental projects in Germany, the United States and Africa. She worked for diverse employers such as GIZ consultant to the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (climate change and sustainable development), the German Federal Environment Agency (sustainable energy supply), Princeton University’s Princeton-Blairstown Center (experiential and environmental education), University of California Davis (environmental research), Wuppertal Institute (sustainable development) and Université Nationale du Rwanda (development cooperation).
