Norway vows not to buckle under terror

"I just wanted to say how wonderful it was to read the article by Lars Bevanger describing the Norwegian people's response to the acts of political terror that took place this past weekend. Norway stands as a beacon of light to a world in darkness. Norwegians are standing by their convictions and living according to them. It is a great pity that the United States and other countries under attack did not react the same way as Norway. The world would be a much better and more peaceful place." -- Cynthia C., Canada

"Very unfortunate about the attacks in Norway. To think that the country doesn't have a death penalty for such crimes is just not fair. Norway needs tough laws for such criminals." -- Joy B.

"We can hope for revulsion towards intolerance, violence, fear and prejudice, and an even greater commitment to Europe's long march and relentless journey towards tolerance, inclusiveness, acceptance, respect, prosperity and good will." -- Hugh S., Canada

Tributes paid at Oslo memorial service for terror victims

"As an American who lived in Germany for five years in the past, I was and am devastated by the news that terrorism has reached your shores in such a horrific way. Please accept my condolences to all the families who lost loved ones in this attack. I hope the survivors do well in their recovery, and I beg them to get professional counseling as a part of their recovery. I am a registered nurse and wish I could do something to help. Just know my prayers are with all of your countrymen and women. We Americans know what it is like to be attacked in a fiendish way, and my heart goes out to all. I know you are good people and will recover. It will just take time to heal, both individually and as a country." -- Lynda L., US

Suspect in Norwegian terror attacks admits responsibility

"The authorities are not responsible for the terrible carnage. Norwegians have a civil, free and liberal-democratic society. Very much unlike the insecurity, fear, siege and terror that prevail in the USA. Hopefully, the Norwegians will maintain their values and not let fear impact their way of life. They have the moral strength to overcome the current crisis without implementing measures that will not prevent extremists from committing horrendous, destructive acts." -- Ernest K., Canada
